Sample itinerary:
Day One Arrive Palma and connect with transfer by coach to the Port of Soller on the other side of the island (approx 25mins). On arrival at the Bed & Breakfast hotel there is time to relax, unpack and explore the picturesque port and shops. Early evening, meet the guide for drinks and further information on the walks and the numerous small restaurants in the vicinity. You are free to explore these in the evenings throughout the week.
Days Two to Five Walks in the area include a trip to the village of Deia where Robert Graves is buried, a walk in the hills behind the village on a track made by an Austrian Archduke who was a keen botanist back in the 1800s. This is a cliff walk with magnificent views across the Mediterranean Sea. Some walks start and finish in the village of Valldemossa where Chopin spent a winter with the writer Georges Sand. These walks have clear views across the whole island. Walk from Soller through orange groves up to a village nestling beneath the summit of a mountainous ridge for a tapas lunch where we can examine the terracing and irrigation systems left by the Moors. Transfer through a mountainous route to walk just beneath the highest point on the island to a large lake now the main water supply for the island. Black vultures are often seen circling in this area.
Day Six A free day to explore the area, take a trip to the fascinating city of Palma on the wooden mountain train, visit the markets and shops or just walk along the waterfront in Soller.
Days Seven to Nine Drive inland and walk along tracks up to the ancient, ruined castle of Alaro. Views across the ridges of mountains can be contemplated over lunch sitting on the castle walls. Coastal walks to farmhouses in hidden valleys or to small fishing villages where we can have lunch at a small family-run restuarant. Stepped route of an old pilgrimage trail cutting through mountains behind Soller. Lunch is on top of a pinnacle with fabulous views of Soller and the coast and within earshot of the sounds of the village below.
Day Ten Early morning transfer to Palma Airport to connect with return flights, unless arrangements have been made for an extension or a stopover on the way home.
