LASIK laser eye surgery helps treat eye problems such as astigmatism, myopia, and hyperopia. This is very popular now because it is relatively easy to perform and the patients will not feel too much pain and they can even recover faster compared to other eye treatments. Most people undergo LASIK laser eye surgery because they do not want the hassle of wearing eye glasses or the discomforts of contact lenses. Visit us on Eye Glasses-Eyes Of Texas.
Before the surgery, patients are advised by their doctors to stop wearing soft contact lenses for 5 to 21 days. For hard contact lenses, patients need to stop wearing them 6 weeks before the operation and they should another 6 more weeks for every three years that they have worn the hard contact lens. The eye doctor will perform a series of thorough examinations of the patient’s eyes to double check on the problem and to determine other irregularities that may have been overlooked. The patients will also be asked to take in antibiotics to lessen the possibility of infection.
What happens in the actual operation is that a thin flap in the eye will be created and has to be folded to fix the eye tissues using laser technology. After the repair, the flap will be returned to its original position. The operation can be done even if the patient is awake as long as he/she is not moving. A mild sedative and anesthetic will be given.
After the operation, patients will be given medication for infection and for the operated eyes which they have to use for several weeks. They should sleep a lot and some eye shields were given to protect the eyes from bright lights and while sleeping. Proper and correct procedures followed and performed by the doctor and the patient is the key to a successful LASIK laser eye surgery.
